Pittsburgh…..as a sandwich

Pittsburgh has the Penguins, the Pirates, and Primanti Brothers sandwiches. Steelers, get with the program.

Fried Bologna, french fries, cole slaw, cheese all between two slices of Italian bread……Mmmmmmmm. Evan taken on a crappy camera phone, there’s no denying the awesome that is this sandwich.

Paulie did the prep work. He was doing a year for contempt and he had this wonderful system for doing the garlic. He used a razor and sliced it so thin it would liquefy in the pan with just a little oil. It’s a very good system.

You know, I never looked at Ferengi and thought they looked delicious.

And monkey’s brains, though popular in Cantonese cuisine, are not often to be found in Washington D.C.

If I could, I would just eat the sauce.

Shake Shack makes the best damn burgers ever. Also….you could just drink the sauce, it’s so good. Well worth the wait in line.

Suck It, Magnolia.

(Red Velvet Cupcake in the front and Pistachio Cupcake in the back)

When you ask most people what their favorite bakery in New York is, they will more than likely say Magnolia Bakery. These people are people I like to call lame. I know, I am being a tad bit harsh but being a baker myself I set a very high standard for cupcakes. ESPECIALLY red velvet. The red velvet cupcake I got at Magnolia was a glorified vanilla cake with red food coloring, a rising standard with red velvets. It makes me sad. And the fact that cupcakes are expensive I feel that it’s ridiculous to pay for red velvet and get red vanilla cake. If you are a fan of Magnolia Bakery do me this huge favor:

Pick up the downtown F train at Bryant Park

Take the downtown F train to Delancy Street

Go North East on Norfolk towards Rivington St

Turn Left onto Rivington Street

Walk into Sugar Sweet Sunshine

Purchase a cup of Coffee (or hot chocolate if you’re not a coffee drinker) and 2 cupcakes

Sit and relax

You will never want to leave again. The first time I ate their red velvet I almost cried because it was so delicious. Rusty colored and cocoa tasting, THIS is what Red Velvet really should taste like. And their Pistachio is mind blowing. Between that and the atmosphere (let’s hear it for awesome chicks and an eclectic storefront), it’s a place that’s perfect to bring a book and spend time in there, eating to your hearts content.

I give you….a scotch egg:

one hardboiled egg

covered in sausage

breaded

deep fried

I feel my heart clogging as I look at this. It’s so tiny, yet so deadly and delicious.
